Majored in Russian Studies at Yale (B.A. 1976, M.A. 1981). Worked in the Moscow office of the US-USSR Trade & Economic Council (1983-1988) as a project manager, assisted US member companies with developing and maintaining their business relations in the Soviet Union. Then served (1988-1991) as head of Moscow office of the American Trade Consortium, a group of six US corporations formed to create joint ventures in the USSR, with responsibility for project development, monitoring economic and political developments, providing risk analysis, preparing feasibility studies and managing local staff. Worked ked in Kazakhstan for Mercator Corporation (1992-2012) as VP and Country Manager with responsibility for Government relations and serving as liaison between Kazakhstan’s national oil company and a team of Western technical, legal and financial specialists consulting the government on attracting investment to the energy sector. Now engaged with with Elizarov Consulting Group on business development for projects in countries of the former Soviet Union.
